• Retiring Bereavement Book Carts

    Why The Transition

The Book Cart Program has been a meaningful part of our work, and we’re incredibly grateful for the impact it’s had in hospitals and for families. As we continue to grow, we’ve transitioned to a new model that allows us to provide more consistent, sustainable support.

    • Dramatic spike in rising costs (books, storage, shipping)
    • Logistical challenges maintaining carts across locations
    • Desire to provide more consistent, bedside support
    • Desire for more hands-on approach to creating each item that reaches bereaved families

    What This Means for Hospitals

    • No new carts will be placed
    • Existing carts will not be restocked with books.
    • Hospitals will transition to Held in Hope Care Packages
    • One package per baby, provided through your team
    • Care packages can be requested once all book inventory is depleted

    What Happens to Existing Carts

    • Hospitals may continue using remaining books until inventory is depleted
    • Hospitals may utilize their rolling cart for continued storage related to bereavement supplies

    Partner Hospitals & Sponsors

    • Partner Hospitals are considered any hospital with in-patient maternity services that currently has a Bereavement Book Cart from Gemma's Hope.
    • Sponsorships are shifting to support care packages + broader hospital systems. Option to sponsor books still exists, just in a new format. More information on this new format will be announced in the summer,
